The Theatre program at CQUniversity Australia has a carefully designed and performance-integrated structure that will enrich your learning experience.

Within a creative and supportive environment of performance-based training, you will have the opportunity to work in a number of full-scale productions in technical and creative roles.

On completion, you will be a highly skilled and motivated creative performer that is ready for the workplace.

You will develop a wide range of skills, all of which will be contextualised by studies in dramatic literature, theatre history and drama theory.

During your education and training, you will develop advanced skills in problem solving and creative, self-regulated and critical thinking, as well as enhance your singing and voice, acting, dance and movement skills. In addition, you will explore imagination and performance techniques and styles and cover production-related areas, such as lighting, sound and stage management.

Practical experiences
CQUniversity’s creative, performing and visual arts courses will provide you with the right mix of theory and practical experience so that you graduate work-ready. Study digital media and design and you’ll work within multimedia computer laboratories and production studios and learn from award-winning lecturers, who are supportive of your learning needs and offer relevant, real-word experience. Our visual arts courses and units aim to develop your level of creative skill by bringing together technical proficiency and critical awareness in a broad range of areas. Along with professional training in a range of arts practices, these courses allow you to experience two and three dimensional art forms such as painting, digital imaging, glasswork, jewellery and more.

Drama

Completing a Drama major will provide you with extensive studies and training in the craft of acting and allow you to acquire skills in voice and movement.

Music Theatre

The Music Theatre major has a strong practical focus and offers you intensive technical training in singing, dancing and acting, which will equip you as a professionally acknowledged ‘triple threat’ performer.

Theatre Studies

If you are studying the Bachelor of Theatre (theatre studies) by online study, you will have the opportunity to build your understanding of theatre as part of the broader community through studies that include creative writing and the investigation of the practice of theatre in historical and contemporary contexts. You will also be able to develop creative and performing arts projects in areas of interest under the supervision of the highly qualified staff at CQUniversity Australia.

A range of adjunct courses and electives allows you to pursue additional studies in music, or add other allied skills and knowledge in areas of professional and personal interest such as other creative arts and arts administration, events management, education, business, multimedia design and professional communication.

Technical Theatre

A major in Technical Theatre may be suitable if you are keen to work in the creative and performing arts within a production capacity. You will develop skills in stagecraft, stage and production management, lighting, sound and technical direction.
